Imus has her own historical perks!

Cavite Province has always been one of the most historically rich places in the Philippines and it is sometimes dubbed as the "Historical Capital of the Philippines". It is also one of the first provinces that started the 1896 Philippine Revolution against the Spaniards which gained them a sun ray in the Philippine National Flag.

Looking back, there are several monuments and markers that is spread throughout Cavite that signifies important events and battles that happened in those places.

With that in mind, I decided to visit some of those places to share it to you (especially if you are one of the CaviteƱos that haven't heard of them, ^_^ v).

I started to tour around Cavite from their provincial capital, the City of Imus. My starting point was the Imus Cathedral who has her own share of history.

Imus Cathedral

general topaciofireJust in front of the cathedral stands a plaza that honors General Licerio Topacio and other generals who were key persons during the revolution. Also, most of the roads near here are named from them. If you wish to really dive into the history of this, the plaza has this office that could lecture you about them. Though, they can only accommodate you during weekdays.
Just a short walk towards the Cavite PNP Headquarters and you could see the Battle of Imus Monument.

Interested about the other Monument Marker (Battle of Alapan) that is also situated in Imus, I started walking along Alapan Street towards the Alapan Elementary School I that housed the original monument.

Teachers in the school told me that other parts of the monument were already moved to Imus Heritage Park.

The Imus Heritage Park aims to honor the heroes and heroines who have bravely fought during the Battle of Alapan. The monument signifies the first time the flag has been raised for victory after the long conquering reign of the Spanish Colonial forces in the Philippines.

If you are interested on how I reached these places, I started at Lotus Mall, Imus. Ride a Binakayan Jeepney and tell the driver that you'll alight at Imus Cathedral. You could go straight from E. Topacio Street to go to the Battle of Imus Monument.

In going to the Battle of Alapan Monument, you could opt to ride a tricycle, though it would roughly cost you P 70.00 going there. But, if you like walking you could always take the Carsadang Bago Road and turn at Alapan Street(it's roughly a 7km hike). Going back, you could ride a yellow jeepney from Imus Heritage Park and it could bring you to Robinsons Imus.

See you till the Next Site!
